08/27 — This Radar entry begins our in-season approach to covering the Jets, mainly because even though we still have one preseason game to go, Thursday night at Philadelphia, head coach Eric Mangini has gone to his in-season schedule.
The plan is to provide one blog each day, combining the coach's comments with locker room media period observations and the sights and sounds during the half-hour of media availability at the beginning practice.
But I'll break out of that plan today, since Coach Mangini announced eight cuts at the top of his daily news conference.
The biggest name that was released belonged to WR-KR Tim Dwight, who had been on the Physically Unable to Perform list all summer. Dwight was beginning his second season with the Jets and is in his 10th NFL season. He was trying to come back from an injury that landed him on injured reserve last December.
"This is tough no matter who it is. It's hard to tell someone they're not makig the team," Mangini said of the Dwight cut. "Tim, having a relationship and knowing him for a while, knowing the type of person he is, the character he has, it's always that much more difficult."
Others who were released: DE Darrell Adams, DT Zarnell Fitch, RB Tony Hollings, CB Rayshaun Kizer, WR Dante Ridgeway, OL Nick Smith and WR Juan Wong. That brings the Jets to 75 active roster players a day ahead of the NFL's cutdown to that number.
"This is never a good part of the process, but it's a part of the process," Mangini said. "It's always difficult, and I can't thank those guys enough for what they did for the organization, all their hard work. I wish them well."
I'll have more from the coach, the locker room and the practice in a short while.

Guess we will have to wait for NFL last cut day to find a veteran LG... Randy any word on Adruzzi? Is he playing this year?Has he made it back from his illness??"

Mon, August 27, 2007 - 2:33pm EDT"Tim Dwight was a good offensive player. But it fine. We have enough weapons. We really need this O-Line to come through. At first i was all about giving Kendal the money but when he was acting out of line. I am glad to see him go. Lets Get this rolling. Please. Chad needs some protection. "

Mon, August 27, 2007 - 3:50pm EDT"We wish Tim well. We must now focus on picking up a guard. The giants made our line look high school JV. We should also worry about D'Brick. He is shaky as well."

Mon, August 27, 2007 - 10:15pm EDT"I think Coach Mangini really needs to give RB Alvin Banks more in-game reps the last game of the preseason. I know everybody has been impressed by Danny Ware, & I myself have as well, but Alvin Banks is a more complete RB, as far as pass blocking, selling play action, and running between the tackles"

Mon, August 27, 2007 - 11:03pm EDT"i like that they keep haynes, and wadsworth, get trotter too!!and look for ware to stay, hes a good back for 3rd string, could use a big tall,6'4 reciver, someone to go up and catch the high ball in the corners of the endzone!!"
GreenBeast Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 1:05am EDT"I say pick up S.Rice, or M.Strahan if he leaves the Giants that would put the D to a completely different level and force other teams to come up with whole different game plan when playing gang green. But Trotter would be that run stopper we need to. "

Tue, August 28, 2007 - 1:44am EDT"I really hate to see players cut but I feel that the Jets are going in the right direction, I don't agree to release Pete Kendall, he is good but I know Mr. Tannenbaum wouldn't have pulled the trigger without thinking of the consequences. Please keep Ware..he is Amazing!! Now he can run the ball!!"
Frank Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 2:20am EDT"Clemens is a special player, hhe is going to be outstanding! He has great chemestry with Justin McCariens, Clemens bought Justin back to life..They will be something special. Danny Ware...WOW! HE IS HUNGRY..that boy can RUN!! Great pick up Mr. Tannenbaum! He is a special player."
Aaron Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 7:16am EDT"I agree about RB Alvin Banks. He is more of a complete back, and he has the speed. Danny's also doing very well - Magini should keep both - and at least give Alvin more game reps. I am sure Alvin has proven himself in practice to be on the team."
Lee Roberts Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 8:52am EDT"the toughts of playing the Patriots & Dolphins with a rookie left guard is very discouraging. "

Tue, August 28, 2007 - 9:01am EDT"Getting rid of Kendall was a mistake no matter how badly he was acting. He was a conerstone of that Offensive Line. The only way that we'll win this year is to keep Leon Washington as involved as he was last year, catching chad's dump passes and running for a 35 - 40 yard gain with Jones running."
Lew Ogo Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 10:18am EDT"I think we took a step backwords when we traded Kendall. His absence in the Giants game should show us what we have to look forward to. But, I am confident that this team has a plan. (at least I hope they do)"
andy Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 11:21am EDT"the best thing to do now is to trade for a guard that can help out now that kendall is gone."
p dunne Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 6:09pm EDT"It doesn't matter who starts at QB if the O-line doesn't improve. We lost Kendall over $1 million dollars. When the final cuts are made there better be guard available. Also the 3 4 defense doesn't work the current undersize players. It seems Mangini is trying to put a squre peg in a round hole."
TOM LESTRANGE Said:
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 7:07pm EDT"I believe that the staff are good coaches and evaluators; but the offensive line is essential to the success of the team and the OL hasn't looked good so far. I believe OG is a big priority in the next draft unless we pick a good one up some how. Maybe there is someone on the roster (I hope) who "
Tony Iorio Said:
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 8:30pm EDT"The Jets handled the Kendall situation very poorly. Who is going to play guard? You are only talking about a million dollars and there seems to be a gaping hole on the left side of the line. Kendall was a solid lineman who didn't allow a sack in 2006. The Jets let their emotions decide his fate."
Dean Said:
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 8:54pm EDT"everyone's entitled to their opinion. p kendall is a good pass protector. but he did give up sacks in 2006. he gave up one to jax's rob meier in game 5 and he gave up another to ne's richard seymour in the playoffs. plus he was involved in at least 2 other sax. he's good, not perfect."
Alex Said:
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 1:50pm EDT"Pete Kendall is a great player, and they traded him for what, a fifth round pick? If you're going to trade him, at least get a good deal out of it."
Chris Said:
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 5:53pm EDT"seriously, i miss kendall as much as the next jet fan, but we gotta find someone there to protect the QB, and have him get as much as experience if not enough to be decently solid. Bender I got faith in you man!!! and the Jets !"
BP Said:
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 8:32pm EDT"really didn't want to see Dwight let go. solid route runner, not affraid to go over the middle. didn't get much ink, just played hard."
