08/27 — This Radar entry begins our in-season approach to covering the Jets, mainly because even though we still have one preseason game to go, Thursday night at Philadelphia, head coach Eric Mangini has gone to his in-season schedule.

The plan is to provide one blog each day, combining the coach's comments with locker room media period observations and the sights and sounds during the half-hour of media availability at the beginning practice.

But I'll break out of that plan today, since Coach Mangini announced eight cuts at the top of his daily news conference.

The biggest name that was released belonged to WR-KR Tim Dwight, who had been on the Physically Unable to Perform list all summer. Dwight was beginning his second season with the Jets and is in his 10th NFL season. He was trying to come back from an injury that landed him on injured reserve last December.

"This is tough no matter who it is. It's hard to tell someone they're not makig the team," Mangini said of the Dwight cut. "Tim, having a relationship and knowing him for a while, knowing the type of person he is, the character he has, it's always that much more difficult."

Others who were released: DE Darrell Adams, DT Zarnell Fitch, RB Tony Hollings, CB Rayshaun Kizer, WR Dante Ridgeway, OL Nick Smith and WR Juan Wong. That brings the Jets to 75 active roster players a day ahead of the NFL's cutdown to that number.

"This is never a good part of the process, but it's a part of the process," Mangini said. "It's always difficult, and I can't thank those guys enough for what they did for the organization, all their hard work. I wish them well."

I'll have more from the coach, the locker room and the practice in a short while.

"Pete Kendall is a great player, and they traded him for what, a fifth round pick? If you're going to trade him, at least get a good deal out of it."

"seriously, i miss kendall as much as the next jet fan, but we gotta find someone there to protect the QB, and have him get as much as experience if not enough to be decently solid. Bender I got faith in you man!!! and the Jets !"
