File Under: Giants, Darrelle Revis, Jacob Bender, Kellen Clemens, white jerseys, white pants

08/25 — The Radar is open for business as the 39th opening kickoff of the summer series between the Giants and the Jets is about a half-hour away. And the one thing that jumps out at me as I watch the Jets stretching before the first "road" game of Eric Mangini's second season as head coach is that the players are wearing their white jerseys and white pants for the first time this year.

Jets fans with a fashion sense may recall that all-white was a winning combination last season. They lost the first game of the Mangini regime, the preseason opener at Tampa Bay, in double white, but then won the regular-season opener at Tennessee, followed by three more impressive road wins, at Buffalo, Minnesota and Miami.

The eyes of all Jets fans — well, many fans, anyway — will be on left guard and cornerback. It's been rumored and reported that in the wake of the Pete Kendall trade to Washington, rookie Jacob Bender would start at LG. And with injuries at CB, first-round rookie Darrelle Revis would not only see his first NFL action but could also get his first NFL start. Revis is also returning Ben Graham's warmup punts.

It could be significant that when the Jets' first offense lined up vs. the first defense for half-speed drills just now, Bender was at LG and Revis was at RCB, with David Barrett moving over to LCB.

Here's a little bit of preseason trivia that will become obsolete in a short while. Heading into tonight's NFL preseason action, 42 quarterbacks have thrown 25 or more passes this summer. Among those, the top passer rating belongs to Jacksonville backup David Garrard at 118.4. Second: the Jets' Kellen Clemens at 118.3.

Starter Chad Pennington, meanwhile, is at 37.5. But those numbers wil probably come closer together in the next few hours.

Ever wonder what happened to Tui Alailefaleula, the big nose tackle from Washington who grew up in Alaska? He's a Giant, listed at 345 pounds. Some Jets fans would argue that's the kind of nose size they'd like to see in green. But keep in mind that "the other Tui" is listed fifth on the Giants' DT depth chart. We could see him in the second half.

Other former Jets draft picks on the Giants: T Kareem McKenzie and RB Derrick Ward.

One final thing for New York pro football fans to keep in mind before we kick this one off: A Green & White win would allow the Jets to even the all-time series with the Giants at 24-24-1. In the preseason, the Jets are 19-18-1, in the regular season they're 4-6.

The Jets have just come out as a team to the sound of boos — a greeting that rookies and second-year players hadn't heard here before. Could be somewhat disorienting.

I'll be breaking tonight's game blog up by quarters. Let me know if you prefer a whole game blog (Atlanta) or a blog split into halves (Minnesota) or quarters.

"Randy, Nice to see Clemens is rated #2 in the preseason. You're right Chad's will change real soon. BTW the white on white is their best look. I quess because that what they looked like when they won the Super Bowl."
