File Under: Flight Crew, Al Pereira, John Seiter, Starlight Room

08/24 — At about the same time Eric Mangini was announcing the Jets had agreed in principle to trade Pete Kendall to the Washington Redskins, the Flight Crew was putting on a show next door.

Inside the Starlight Room at the Long Island Marriott, the 10 members of the Jets’ first flag/dance team had an inaugural photo shoot with team photographer Al Pereira. In addition, a videographer was on hand to film the ladies throughout the day. The end product will be a dazzling one-minute introduction video for "the Crew” prior to home games.

“What we are going to do is take all the mixed media footage we get — the still footage photography and the live action video — and kind of put together a high-action 60-second piece,” said Gregg Bedard, producer with The Famous Group. “It is going to be like an intro to a fashion television show. We are going to show some behind-the-scenes stuff, them getting ready. Hopefully, we will be able to really glamorize the girls and get everybody really excited about their introduction for this year.”

Pereira, the energetic long-time lens of the Jets, told me he was going to snap about 800-900 photos. The bad news is we won’t be able to show you all those pics, but the good news is we are going to filter it down and have one heck of a slideshow next Tuesday exclusively on newyorkjets.com.

“We did a little bit of behind the scenes. We got them made up and everything, which was fun. It was light and goofy,” AP said. “Then they all bore down and did a couple of dance routines — some of the stuff we see at the stadium but in a contained space. Now we are going to do a group shot and then we are going do some individual stuff.

"It’s fun because I get to do the portraits and hopefully they come out well and everybody’s happy.”

Two weeks from Sunday, the Flight Crew will run out of the tunnel on opening day with new uniforms. Thursday, they tried on the snazzy new gigs — green tops with a Jets logo at the center of the chest, white long sleeves and a single green stripe by the shoulders, white shorts with the green letters J-E-T-S embedded on the back and white high-heeled boots.

“These aren’t the boots we are actually supposed to be wearing,” Gina told me. “They had to go to Ronkonkoma [N.Y.] and pick up the boots. Some guy went all the way out there yesterday to get these for us.”

The Famous Group works closely with John Seiter, the Jets’ senior director of multimedia production who is in his 23rd season with the club, on a number of projects including the gameday video board presentation. Seiter arrived early in the morning to prep the Starlight Room and the girls got moving around 8:30 a.m. The Jets had the room booked all day.

“We did some individual stuff in front of the mirror where each girl was putting her makeup on — some very close-up stuff, close-up eyes, close-up lips,” Seiter said. “This is like a fashion shoot, kind of like before the models go on the runway.”

Early next week, we’ll give you a glimpse of what that runway looked like.
