File Under: Chad Pennington, Kerry Rhodes, Drew Coleman, Kenyon Coleman

08/20 — In honor of the end of two-a-days at Jets training camp — this evening's practice marked the final double session on the schedule — the Green and the White came together on a few occasions.

One highlight was the "D" stopping Chad Pennington and the first offense on the first play during the red zone period. Pennington tried to feather a pass to TE Chris Baker, but he only got it high enough for Shaun Ellis to swat the ball into the air, and ultimately into the hands of fellow DE Kenyon Coleman for the interception.

Reenergized, Pennington dropped back on the next play from the plus-10, then made a mad dash through traffic to the goal line, made a theatrical spike into the padding beneath the end zone, then came back, leaped into the air and did a hip bump with Kerry Rhodes. So nice to see the O and the D working in such harmony.

The pass defense rose up a number of other times. One standout was CB Drew Coleman. Early in 1-on-1 passing drills, Wallace Wright made an in-cut in the end zone, couldn't control the pass and Coleman plucked it out of the air for the pick.

Then on one of the final plays of practice, Kellen Clemens had a leaping Brad Smith alone in the zone — or so it seemed, until Coleman caught up and jarred the ball out of Smith's hands as he tried to tuck the touchdown away.

Another star was CB Andre Dyson, who swatted down a pass for Wright early, then broke up a two-minute ball from Pennington to Laveranues Coles late.

CB Rayshaun Kizer had two nice back-to-back plays, snaring the pick off of Marques Tuiasosopo in front of Joe Kowalewski at the goal line, then breaking up a low throw to WR Chris Davis. But Kizer was trailing Smith later when Clemens loaded up and hit No. 16 deep downfield.

In the Darrelle Revis Dept., the first-round rookie made one of his first PDs of camp, closing quickly and jarring a short Tui pass from Evan Prall's grasp. Revis' defensive mates let out a whoop.

But Revis also had trouble — as many do — with one of Ben Graham's drop punts, muffing the end-over-end kick, then falling on it at his 5.

Sean Ryan has emerged with some big catches recently, but he had LB Brad Kassell beat near the goal line, only to have Clemens' perfectly placed long ball bounce off his outstretched hands. The crowd oohed.

Under heavy skies with no steady rain but a lot of "spitting," Mike Nugent had some trouble from the right hashmarks into a suddenly strong crosswind, coming up short from 58 and 63 yards. But Nooge shifted to the left hashes, the wind died down, and the kicker nailed kicks from 53 and 58 easily while not getting off a try at the 63-yard NFL-record distance.

The final two practices of training camp will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. and Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.

"Memo to Mr.T ....do not sign J Trotter!!!! We do not need another slow LB cloggong up our defense. Let D Harris be the beast he is and knock people around. Philly released him to play younger faster LB's let not pick up Philly's garbage."

"To the above poster named Drew, One mans garbage is another mans treasure :). If the Jets were smart they would grab him and then try to package him and Kendall for a draft pick!"

"Another Memo to Mr T. ..... Do you think it is wise to underpay and anger your best veteran offense lineman considering you have an injury prone fragile QB and no viable backup option?"
