File Under: Thomas Jones, FedEx Ground

10/23 — It should come no as surprise that the NFL announced today that Jets RB Thomas Jones was named FedEx Ground Player of the Week. Jones’ 210-yard ground effort against the Bills was a personal best and also set a franchise record.

“When you watch the film, you see some good things,” Jones said. “When you lose the game, the feeling that you have is frustration in not winning. That takes over any type of feeling of accomplishment. I want to win, first of all. I will do everything I can in the game to help us win.”

You knew it was going to be a special day for T.J. when he broke off a career-long 64-yard carry in the second quarter. Then on his next carry, Jones went the distance from 71 yards out as the Jets built a 13-3 halftime lead before succumbing to their division rivals in overtime.

“If you get guys blocked up and one guy is out of place, a great run can happen. The offensive line has done a great job despite having that many guys to block,” he said. “We’re going to have to make a guy miss. It’s a lot about angles. If you get yourself a good angle, a lot of times you get in a good position. The line is doing a great job."

The 31-year-old Jones, who finished fifth in the NFL in rushing last season with 1,312 yards, currently ranks fifth in the league with 481 yards. Entering Week 6 with a 3.7-yard rushing average, Jones lifted that average to 5.0 yards. In nine previous seasons, his highest per-carry average was 4.6 (2003, Tampa Bay). And while his 15 TDs and 13 rush TDs set franchise records in ’08, he already has six and is on pace to break those marks.

"Glad to see TJ get his dues. From all of you the most. Every one ripped him said he should have kept his mouth shut about Favre. TJ is the ultimate team guy, and thats why he spoke up."

"come on shotty..last year of your contract.. do u want to be in ny? play calling has got to be better. all that talent and we can't figure out how to win? pats came back from 13 points and we blew 13 points over a longer period of time. u gotta question yourself after the 2nd or at least the 3rd interception hmm maybe we gotta do high percentage pass plays and play action runs. wake up wake up"

"The Daily News today compares MS's first 6 games with other rookie QBs who are now stars and he's right where they were. What's more, BR in PIT never threw over 25 times in his 1st year and they ran 63%!. So I look forward to less weird 3rd-down calls by Schotty, less pass plays designed to gain half a foot. Frankly, the O we've been playing isn't at all what I expected when MS was given the job."
