File Under: Pete Kendall, Kellen Clemens, David Barrett, Brian Robinson
08/17 — THIRD QUARTER
The Jets' downfield pass defense has been good tonight. Drew Henson, the third Minnesota QB, aired one out for WR Chandler Williams five minutes into the second half but David Barrett was all over it and swatted it away.
But the Jets' third-down defense hasn't been getting it done. Henson's completion to Martin Nance converted third-and-4 and gave the visitors 6-of-10 conversions. Then on the next third down, the Jets held and took over on a punt by Alex Reyes marked out of bounds at the Jets 9.
Kellen Clemens seemed to have the offense going in the right direction with two first downs to the 31. But then more Purple disaster was visited on the Green & White. On first down, Clemens was sacked by DE Brian Robison, who beat LT Adrian Jones around the corner. Pete Kendall, centering on this drive, recovered.
But on the very next play, Kendall put his shotgun snap over Clemens' head. Clemens, who likes to try to save bad snaps, should have fallen on this one. He tried to pick up the bouncing ball, missed, and Robison recovered at the 3 and rolled into the end zone.
Three TDs allowed off of Jets offensive turnovers — oofah!
Vikings 31, Jets 13
A Clemens pass tipped by a diving Chansi Stuckey was scooped up by CB Dovonte Edwards at the Jets 40 and the Vikes were on the move to another takeaway score, Ryan Longwell's 22-yard field goal.
That's 24 points off turnovers vs. the Jets tonight. Not good, but at least this is the time of the season to have this kind of game.
Vikings 34, Jets 13
Brad Smith comes in at QB and injects a little life with an 8-yard scramble for a first down as the game heads into its final 15 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
The continuation of the Jets' drive was impressive for a couple of reasons: Danny Ware and Jason Pociask. Ware had carries of 6, 8, 8 and 9 yards and on each one Pociask, a tight end who was lining up as the fullback, made solid blocks at the point of attack.
Smith got the Jets as close as first-and-goal at the Minnesota 5 before the possession came apart: hold on Sean Ryan, false start on Jacob Bender, then a Smith scramble and incompletion had the Jets at fourth-and-goal at the 7. They were going for it — but Kendall, still at center, committed his second bad shotgun snap, this one low and to the left of Smith, who was hit by two Vikings after he tracked the ball down at the Vikes 26. This is definitely not the Green & White's night.
The Jets force a punt and now with 5:48 to go and down by 21 points, Marques Tuiasosopo is running the offense, and like Pennington, he figures to throw his first pass of the preseason tonight. Does he have a three-TD fantastic finish in him like Bollinger did against the Eagles in 2004? We'll see.
Tui hits a pair of passes for 10 and 7 yards to Sean Ryan. Then on fourth-and-8 from the Vikes 47, he scrambles, buys time and hits Tony Hollings for the conversion, then another first down to Stuckey. Then the payoff: a beautiful 23-yard throw to Pociask, who got behind linebacker George Hall for the TD.
Vikings 34, Jets 20
With 2:22 to go, Darrelle Revis, who was warming up in the rain before the game, is still on the sidelines in uniform but still hasn't gotten into the game.
Longwell's latest field goal with 30 seconds left makes it 37-20. The last time the Jets gave up that many points in a summer game was their 37-24 loss at Green Bay in Game 2 of the 2000 preseason. The last time they gave up more was their 44-27 loss at Oakland to end the '96 preseason.

The rap on this guy out of college is he is all blocking no hands...Hands look good to me...By the way another horrible Kendall snap...why are they playing him at center, we have seen this before. Put him tLG and lets forget this mess tonight!!"

All joking aside boys & girls....Chad will be fine, our team will be soild and everyone will be all fired up for the Giants next week. It was just a pre-season game.....Right??"

The tight ends & receivers looked good, as did some role players (Wright, B. Smith, Ware, etc.). Chad will be OK, but holy cow he looked bad!"

It's not his position! The organization looks childish & spiteful. Pete should man-up and live with his contract but he should be starting."

I agree with Joe's post, will the jets ever be able to stop the run and consistantly pressure the quarterback.. Hope so.."

Sat, August 18, 2007 - 5:41am EDT"With all the comments heard on how Kendall doesn't want to be in New York, looked like he either, a) snapped the ball bad on purpose or b) doesn't care. With 12 years in the league, his years are numbered, he's better than he played. Man up Pete, play 110% , any position, any team. ALL the time!"

Sat, August 18, 2007 - 6:52am EDT"Randy, In that 2000 game at GB the QB who ripped them was Matt Hassellbeck. This was as poor of a game you will see them play. NO NEED TO PANIC EVERBODY. Time to let Kendall start and play with the 1st unit so they can get going and be ready for the opener. Ellis,Barton and Barrett played well."

D MONEY Said:
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 10:18am EDT"The Vikings played as if it were a regular season game, and the jets looked like they were on the Hofstra practice field. They absorbed an old fashioned beating on both sides of the ball. The good news is that it's preseason and it doesn't count. This was an abrupt wake up call for the Jets. "

Sat, August 18, 2007 - 12:44pm EDT"Danny Ware was originally recruited at Georgia as a linebacker! He'd rather run over someone than go around! He's doing an awesome job at RB. BeWare of Danny Ware!"
Ira Said:
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 1:53pm EDT"Ok so Chad doesn't have the strongest arm. D's always sit on the out patterns with Chad. But every year that he has played 12 or more games he takes them to the playoffs. Now with the extra weapons at WR and the combo of Jones and Washington it will get Chad over the hump."
D MONEY Said:
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 2:07pm EDT"Hey Viveca, the Jets inability to win a Super Bowl with a weak armed Chad has crossed my thoughts also. I've concluded that he can, with an ideal supporting cast, which is slowly beginning to surround him. If I'm wrong, let's hope Clemens continues his steady development. Let's go Gang Green! "
