File Under: Contract, Mike Tannenbaum, Darrelle Revis, Neil Schwartz, Jonathan Feinsod
08/15 — Darrelle Revis is in the Green & White fold.
New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, first-round draft choice Darrelle Revis, and Revis' agents, Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, just concluded news conferences in the media room at the Jets' training complex tonight to announce that Revis has signed a contract.
"Being out so long, you think it's never going to end," Revis said of his 20 days and 22 practices totaling more than 53 hours of missed training camp. "We're just glad to get this process done and over with. We're happy, the Jets are happy. Right now it's one big family. We're in it together."
Neither side announced terms of the contract, but Tannenbaum called it "complicated" and Schwartz described it as "sophisticated and quite creative and unique." Tannenbaum said the sides had an agreement in principle at midnight.
"We spent the better part of today just working through the nuance and the technicalities of a very complicated contract — that’s why Darrelle wasn’t able to practice," the GM said. "We were just working through the process for the better part of the day into the night. It was just a long time throughout the day to get this to where we wanted it to be, but we’re glad it’s over. We are excited to put Darrelle on the field."
Schwartz said that in fact, "We've got a few more things in the contract to be signed. We've got to get back upstairs to finish drafting."
Revis said he passed his conditioning run this morning — "no problems." He said of whether he would play in Friday night's second preseason game vs. Minnesota, "That's up to Coach Mangini."

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 7:03am EDT"Randy, Revis has to make up for lost time but he is in good hands. MacIntyre coached some real good DB's in Dallas while Henderson also played CB in the NFL. Also having Eric coached DB's for 5 yrs while he was with the Pats won't hurt. I am sure he will be involved in getting him caught up. "

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 7:30am EDT"I agree that we don't need to rush him playing catch up and have him tear that hammy Drew. This 6 yr deal is obviousl that he is in our long term plans. He'll see action but starting week one is a litle too much pressure. Great news."

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 7:32am EDT"Starting is not the important thing for now. He needs to get into football shape 1st and then learn this D. Dyson,Barret, and Miller before he was hurt all worked hard and played well this camp. Revis will start out the season in D and N packages and work his way into the starting lineup later on."

I cant wait to see how fast he can start to pick up the defensive scheme. We dont need to rush him the last thing we need is another hamstring injury."
Ira Said:
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 10:22am EDT"Now that Revis is in these next 2 weeks are important to other players also. Poteat, Hodge, and Collins will be fighting it out for probably 1 more CB spot. Poteat should get the edge because of his experience with this D plus he can play some safety in a pinch."

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 1:57pm EDT"Glad to see Revis in camp we can now cut Poteat!!! Ref Kendall , should not be given a dime extra . Let him see out his year or trade him. This organisation is no longer for kicking around."
Ira Said:
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 2:20pm EDT"Kendall doesn't appear to be disruptive to the team. He is still playing and will probably start. Ty Law pulled the same thing in 04 with the Pats. Well camp ended, he played the season and they won a Super Bowl. I would have no problem listening to some complaints in exchange for a Super Bowl."
Drew Said:
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 3:16pm EDT"I agree Pete should get his raise but the Jets do not need to do anything. He is not going to sit out and he is still the best guard we have. He seems to already accept the fact that he is not getting more cash. We need this guy to pass block..something Clarke has yet to show he can do."
