File Under: 24, Darrelle Revis, Brad Smith, Kellen Clemens, Ben Graham, Mike Devlin

08/15 — The "24" watch was on, but neither agent Jack Bauer nor cornerback Darrelle Revis was anywhere to be found.

So the several camera crews in attendance at today's single afternoon training camp practice bided their time shooting more secondary drills than they probably ever have before, focusing on every uni number available — 36, 21, 30, 31 ... but no 24 in green, which is what Revis, the Jets' first-round pick, will sign as soon as he begins practicing.

Almost an hour into practice, a player walked through the gate from the Jets complex onto the Hofstra soccer fields. Could it be? Is it?

No, the jersey was not green nor 24, but rather white and 45. Stacy Tutt was returning to work.

At this moment there is nothing new on Revis' contract situation. As soon as we can pass on new information, we'll let you know.

On to practice ...

The Jets were in semi-game-preparation mode at today's practice for Friday's second preseason game vs. Minnesota. In that context, Kellen Clemens launched a beautiful long scoring pass to Wallace Wright over Alphonso Hodge.

And Brad Smith got a shorter rollout pass past David Harris to Chris Baker for another score.

But score one for the defense as David Bowens came in unblocked for what would have been a sure sack of Brett Ratliff, except that Bowens ran past the red-shirted No. 5.

Back in offensive drills only, Clemens also completed some passes out of the backfield to a non-roster free agent. Actually, Mike Devlin is the Jets' offensive line coach along with Tony Wise, and he looked fairly formidable putting away Clemens' toss and yelling "go-go-go-go-go" as he turned upfield.

"It was a dream I never got to live," Devlin said after practice about never having caught a pass in his seven NFL seasons. "I was the tight end in Buffalo and some in Arizona on the goal line. Jim Kelly would pass it to me in practice, stick it right here where I couldn't miss it. In the games, I was used for cutting of on the back side."

CB Manny Collins had another nice play in coverage. Ratliff launched a ball to "82," who was fast WR Chris Davis impersonating fast Vikes WR Troy Williamson. Davis left his feet to put two hands solidly on the high pass — until Collins crashed into him and jarred the ball loose.

The two-minute drill featured stands by the defense. CB Andre Dyson made a nice sliding interception of Chad Pennington. Then Clemens completed one first-down pass to Brad Smith but then turned the ball over on a fourth-down incompletion.

One other highlight: Ben Graham, not Mike Nugent, putting balls through those infamous narrow uprights. Graham was left-footing drop punts straight down the middle and over the crossbar from 40 yards for what would be goals in Australian Rules but would merely be touchbacks in the NFL.

To end practice, DT Sione Pouha had to catch a Ben Graham punt. The reward was reported to be the night off — for everyone. Pouha caught it.

"Randy, I think Revis will have plenty of time to catch up & contribute, Eric will make him work for sure. I was thinking of lengthly hold outs & seem to remember the year three prominent Jets were missing for game one, was it in 85 & the players were Mcelroy, Powell & maybe Shuler? "

"Way to go Mr. T getting that 6 yr deal. This is the best deal for the Jets and a good deal for Revis. Adam Schefter reports 6yrs for $36 million. Now lets go win that AFC. GO JETS!!!!!"
