09/27 — We just received inactives up here at press level as the rain continues to fall on the Meadowlands:
NYJ Inactives: QB K. O'Connell, E. Ainge (3rd QB), CB L. Sheppard, CB D. Strickland, LB J. Westerman, OL M. Slauson, DL R. Pitoitua and WR D. Clowney.
Titans Inactives: QB V. Young (3rd QB), P C. Hentrich, LB S. Keglar, T/G T. Kropog, TE B. Scaife, WR L. Hawkins, DT Sen'Derrick Marks and DE D. Ball.
With Sheppard out, Dwight Lowery will get the start opposite Darrelle Revis. And the Titans have a pair of lineup changes as LB Leroy Harris will take Eugene Amano's spot in the lineup and veteran Alge Crumpler is set to fill in for Bo Scaife.
Just a reminder, the NFL is commemorating 50 years of the AFL with 16 AFL Legacy Games during the '09 season and New York's AFC representative will mark the occasion by wearing original NY Titans uniforms in three contests vs. original AFL franchises. The Jets will be in their Titans' navy jerseys today, but they'll also debut their white Titans' jerseys at Oakland on Oct. 25 and they'll come right back in white November 1 vs. Miami.

Sun, September 27, 2009 - 2:35pm ET"I'm very worried about our running game .. Guess we might have to give M-S a pass this week hes making lots of rookie mistakes but its expected so lets hope the second half gets better Pick it up D- Collins is to slow cmon now..Titans 1st TD is on V-G missed tackle what a wuss & M-S fumble "
Ed in Tucson Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 2:39pm ET"Sanchize shows he's human, & a rook. D needs to get stouter! Not enough running plays. Get BS more involved, maybe some Seminole. Wet ball seems to be big problem for SoCal boy. Get a grip Mark! Go Jets, redo 1st Q! Let Leon, the Lion of the Meadowlands roar!"
Mike J Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 2:48pm ET"Just curious, but since this is a "Heritage Game" are they referring to the teams by their 2009 names or by their AFL names, which could get a bit confusing, especially for the visiting team."
Randy Lange Said:
"Despite the "Heritage Game" designation, this game was Jets vs. Titans."

Sun, September 27, 2009 - 5:35pm ET"Good game today! Seeing Sanchez make some rookie mistakes after a 14pt lead was rough to see but hey I would rather see them now and work on his mistakes then see them in a crutial week 10 or 11 game. And about our running game its all there and they have an OL that can get that running game in motion. I am not worried though. We are a very composed team this year. GO JETS!!!!!"
Shep Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 5:46pm ET"Sanchez looked more like a rook today, but still made some very good throws. Game ball in my opinion goes to our special teams squad, awesome play out there today guys. Great gadget calls early, then some bad play calling followed. Shot ourselves in the foot a few times, and it wasn't as good a win as it started out to be, but we got the W and that's what's important. Time for the Big Easy!!"
Row Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 6:28pm ET"First off I want to say I'm stoked we are where we are right now! I hate to say it week in and out, but Sanchez must play better. He must make plays, or defenses are going to do what they did today. He looked horrible at times because they put the game on his shoulders. We have to have better play at QB in order to run the ball. I think the Jets can get better with the upcoming schedule. Go Jets"

Sun, September 27, 2009 - 6:31pm ET"HUGE win for a young team, playing weakly on O but still well enough to win. Row, my Friday post praising your great analysis didn't make it onto the site, now it's an even greater analysis because this game shows we need to run the ball a lot better. Still don't like Schotty's ill-timed trick plays or the INT'd pass to Stuck when we had to kill clock and get an FG. But our D and ST are AWESOME!"
Erik H Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 6:48pm ET" The one run Jones gets yards on we had to cheat by holding. Two runs beginning of year he gets yards on he is never touched. Jets till I die but Jones is a mess! Get him to outside or something!! this is not a guy that makes things happen. Why are we not using Richardson? Jones is becoming a wasted down. "
Jets Fan Since '64 Tom Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 6:58pm ET"Chad quarter-long drive puts NO pts. up, HAS ONLY 33 pts. this year, sits as Fish head for 3rd of, oh, 13 or 14 losses. Pats beat ATL but still don't look that good. Bills play tougher than expected but TO not much of a factor yet. Meanwhile, Jets beat HOU, NE, TEN, GIVE UP ONLY only 33 pts. so far, MS first rook in modern NFL to go 3-0. I think we can let up on the front office just a bit, no?"
Ray Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 7:22pm ET"Row, no MS wasn't great today, but I'm afraid you have it backwards. If you want to see better QB play, we need to be able to run the ball. Expecting a rookie QB to make it easier for us to run is asking a bit much. There is no excuse for this veteran offensive line not to be able to run block better than they have."
Jets Fan Since '64 Tom Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 7:40pm ET"Row, I see things MS needs to do better and many things he does really well already. He can't be doing that badly going 3-0 and putting up better stats at this point than Ryan and Flacco last year. I'm with Erik H to some extent about TJ and certainly about the running game as a whole. Don't forget, Row, MS kept us in and won all three games when our "P&G" running game largely failed to show up!"
Shep Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 7:40pm ET"Oh, and I forgot to say it. Titans? REXECUTED!!"
JP Said:
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 10:52pm ET"A win is a win as they say. Now we need to improve on certain areas. #1 running game. Unless it's a big play, it seems to be non-existent. I agree that M-S should not have to shoulder the load of the O. Glad he stuck with it to the end. Cotch is back. On D we once again were great. A lot of Titan's passes were made inches from a Jet defenders hands. ST is a power plus. Now off to NO - 3-0 Go JETS"
cliff Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 4:14am ET"Can anyone tell me what's wrong with Clowney or Shonne Greene? And how long Strickland and Sheppard are going to be out? They were playing like unreal football. I definately noticed their absence today. And why are we going to Jones more than Washington still when it's clear Leon is by FAR and away the MUCH more talented RB. He's fast and cut back. Jones, well isn't. He's just terrible."
cliff Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 4:21am ET"Row, your critique of M.S is actually pretty bad and far off. You don't get Rookie of the Week for playing badly. He's actually played fairly oustanding overall until today. Today was the most rattled I've seen him but he's a ROOKIE. He still threw 2 TD's and ran for another. Yes he fumbled one away and threw a pick but given the weather and unusually O-line play, and him a Rookie, it's ok."
cliff Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 4:25am ET"Anyway, to say he'd needed to play better every game and be critical of him every game is silly and bad analysis. Fact is, if our running game don't get going and Clowney doesn't return, he'll be in for many more rough days ahead. Jones needs to go. Play Shonne and Leon, mainly Leon. And get our RB's outside plays and more screens to the outside. Play calling today to me was the worst yet."
Shep Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 8:15am ET"I"m aware that coach needs to keep an extra defensive lineman on the roster while Pace is out, but we could really use Green to come in and provide some UMPH to our running game. I agree with my fellow fans that it just hasn't looked that great lately. Schedule lightens up a bit after N.O., so hopefully we get it going. Great game by Harris and the rest of the D even though we bent a few times."
Jets Fan Since '64 Tom Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 12:50pm ET"All great stuff, Cliff. Fact is, as you put it, MS has kept us in these games as much as anybody and that isn't how it was supposed to work, which shows you just how talented he is. I get relying on TJ, Leon, Cotch, and Stuck in the first few games to solidify them as starters, but pretty soon we're going to have to start mixing our guys up if we're going to avg. more than 21 points a game. "
Ed in Tucson Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 1:48pm ET"Ten is 2nd in AFC vs run - 60.7 yds p/g. Jets got 83 net yds rushing; be realistic when criticizing! The Titans' D dictated that Jets pass a bit more than 1st 2 games. The weather made it tough for a rook from SoCal to throw the ball; but he managed & we won. From the way some of these malcontents gripe you would think we're 0-3! Sunday in a dome should be another kind of test. Our D must step up."
Jets Fan Since '64 Tom Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 3:23pm ET"I hear you on TEN strong vs. the run, Ed in Tucson, but our running hasn't looked that good in ANY game, nothing like what Rex talked about all summer. And it's hard to believe Greene couldn't get outside faster on some of these plays than TJ, who often looks really soft the minute anyone touches him, not at all like last year's TJ. Sure Favre helped but MS throws way better than he has for years!"
Ed in Tucson Said:
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 9:34pm ET"@Jets Fan Since '64 Tom, I agree that we need to be more productive with run game. Yesterday I kept wishing that we would unleash the 3 headed beast that we were promised coming out of training camp. Though I'm much happier with O play calling this year than last, I'd like to see more misdirection & more extensive use of the Seminole with B Smith getting more touches with option sweeps. Go Jets!"
Jets fan sicne 67 Said:
Tue, September 29, 2009 - 1:28am ET"Well I will tell you this if MS does what he did in the first half in the next game he will be ina wheel chair. That was a stupid move to use his head the way he did. he has tallent but he needs to use his brains too and not do something so stupid ever again. I think the D was superb in a lot of ways. MS made a few rookie mistakes but he almost cost us on another hand."
