File Under: Dustin Keller, Bart Scott, Madbacker, Barking with Bart, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali

09/25 — After the “Madbacker” goes head-to-head with the Tennessee Titans this weekend, Bart Scott will drop by the Jets’ production studios for another installment of “Barking with Bart.” Broadcast on Jets TV, which serves as the Internet video component on newyorkjets.com, the program airs weekly on Tuesdays but an archived version is made available to Jets Nation throughout the week.

Scott, whose foundation is named A Son Never Forgets, is scheduled to make his first small-impact grant to a worthy charity on Tuesday. The Jets have set up an email address, scottcharity@newyorkjets.com, for people to submit their charitable causes and Bart will pick a winner each week.

All charitable requests must include the following information: a 501(c)3 Tax ID Number, a sampling of programs, and a statement indicating what one would do with a small grant from Bart Scott.

Toronto Tourism is sponsoring the program as Scott and the Jets are scheduled to visit Toronto, Canada, on Thursday, Dec. 3, in a nationally televised affair against the Buffalo Bills. You can book your trip now at seetorontonow.com or by calling Jets Getaways at 212-391-TRIP.

Encouraging fan barks as well, the Jets have created a new email address, bscott@newyorkjets.com, so Jets Nation can write in to No. 57 and selected comments and questions will be read on-air.

Smokin’ Joe and the Jets

Dustin Keller, Chansi Stuckey and James Ihedigbo attended a “Night with the Champ” charity event Thursday in New York City and had the chance to meet former heavyweight champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier.

Smokin' Joe Frazier with Keller, Stuckey and Ihedigbo.

“He’s a good guy, definitely a wise man and he has a lot of wisdom to give,” Keller said. “He told a lot of the stories to the group. He was telling us about him and Ali, about how much trash he would talk. More than anything, he’s hilarious.”

On March 8, 1971, at Madison Square Garden, Frazier captured a 15-round unanimous decision over Ali in what was billed as "the Fight of the Century." But Ali came back in 1974 and topped Frazier in a 12-round unanimous decision. That set up "the Thrilla in Manila," a brutal encounter in which Frazier trainer Eddie Futch wouldn't let his man come out for the 15th and final round.

“I’ve seen a lot of the throwback fights and he’s a monster,” DK said of Frazier. “I haven’t seen the Thrilla in Manila, but I know how they said it was the toughest fight of their lives.”

In addition to those brilliant exchanges in the ring, Ali and Frazier had a few historic verbal sparring rounds. Keller heard about a couple Thursday night and talked about them this afternoon.

“Ali would say, ‘Joe Frazier, I’m so pretty.’ And Joe Frazier would say, ‘Yeah, you’re pretty all right. I’m going to knock your face off,’ " Keller said.

Another time, the tight end said Frazier recalled he entered the ring "and Ali said, ‘Joe Frazier, I am God, I am God.’ And he was like, ‘Well, God is in the wrong place today.’ ”

"Frazier-Ali. Now that was when boxing was boxing. What in the world has happened since then? As for this game coming up, the running game (both sides) scare me a little. I really feel out running game has not showed up yet, and thier's? it can be scary. But in Rex we trust. A lot has been said about Clowney. Say what you like, but plugging this guy in to the lineup can not hurt. It will help!"
