09/03 — Tonight's game marks the ninth consecutive preseason that the Jets and the Eagles have met in the preseason finale. The two teams have played in the preseason every year since 1985, with the exception being the 2000 season.
Just a couple of hours before kickoff, the Green & White announced the signing of TE Ben Hartsock. The 6'4", 270-pounder, who was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, was given No. 48 but he won't dress. It is expected the Jets' starters will get just one series of action while Eagles QB Michael Vick will see extended time behind center for the visitors.
Late this afternoon, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that Vick will be eligible to play in the third week of the regular season. According to the Associated Press' Dennis Waszak (who's working at a ridiculous pace right next to me at the moment), the Commissioner met with Vick in New Jersey for 45 to 50 minutes this morning.
"Hopefully we can have a success story here, which would be good for society in general," Goodell said. "He's realistic about the challenges ahead. And anxious to play football."
We'll begin the chat minutes before kickoff. This is a chat intended for everyone, so let's keep it clean. While some comments will be posted, we encourage you all to ask questions. I'll get to as many as I can and thanks for your continued interaction.

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 8:44pm ET"Gholston finally looks like he can do something getting some pressure and being around tackles but not hustling on some plays Sanchez looked really good for the one series he was in and Marcus Henry should get the ball thrown to him more he is a big tall target that could be our Brandon Marshall if allowed to be while not fast he hangs on the ball"

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 10:36pm ET"Alot things to comment on here.Sanchez looked great and really showed zip and accuracy in his drive, havent seen a drive like that from jets QB in way too long. Those D inter penalties were a joke and from the looks of it they have turned there back on Clemens and I see him bein traded very soon.VG showed some promise finally.I think they should keep two players that they may not have room for"

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 10:47pm ET"Woodhead and Aundre Allison.Woodhead will be insurance to any of the 3 RB's and has the skills to make a team.A.A has looked better then Brit or Henry and even if they pick up a big name WR they should feep this guy.Ainge will be #2 and they'll get a vet in there to be #3.A.J. Feeley would be a great pickup off the Eagles and should be up the taking after the cut"

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 11:07pm ET"Where has wide load Green-95 been? This guy was rockin tonight. Pitoutua is borderline, but gotta love that range. Woodhead made a statement, don't know if that'll be enough, but one hell of a try. I'll repeat a joke from the weekend, can we sign Ocho Cinco to punt please?Ainge really looks like he's worth keeping around, yeah against 3rd string and all, but the timing and placement seems perfect."

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 11:21pm ET"I bet that VG felt an enormous wait off his shoulders when he got the sack. I still don't think I woulod play him when Pace returns however he did show some promise. Kellen looked terrible. And Ainge is seriously making it hard for the Jets to even keep Clemens around. Picked up Washington, Keller, Cotchery and Jets D in my fantasy team. Now is that dedication or what. "

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 11:37pm ET"Randy, please tell me that the Jets will get Danny Woodhead signed? This kid runs with heart!Mr T. find away to get this one done!!Don't let him be a Derrick Ward!!"
Randy Lange Said:
"carl, Danny Woodhead is signed. You don't want him waived. But I get your drift."
Vincent Said:
Thu, September 3, 2009 - 11:54pm ET"Keep Woodhead. Having an extra pair of fast legs will make us unstoppable. The combination of TJ, Leon, Shonn & Woodhead would keep them all fresh & make the Jets one of the scariest running teams in the NFL. Alternatively, now that Woodhead's stocks have risen, maybe him & a draft pick will secure that WR MikeT alluded to during his 3rd qtr talk. Damn I hate this last week of cutting players..."

Fri, September 4, 2009 - 1:09am ET"I had to watch it on the eagles tv network so I had hugh douglas and herm edwards and someone else commentating the game and it was so horrible they wouldn't even say anything really good about the Jets constantly talking about vick and the eagles even when the Jets were out there. Our WR's are fine we need to keep what we have and give woodhead/washington good contracts GO JETS!"
David Brooks Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 1:21am ET"#54 Kenwin Cummings is doing a great job as a backup linebacker for the Jets. He seems to have a nose for the ball and surprisingly almost ran down Vick tonight in the backfield."

Fri, September 4, 2009 - 3:16am ET"Hey guys and gals, had to work all night and couldn't watch any of the game! All I've seen are clips and your comments. Seems like a lot of bright spots, including from a few guys who really needed 'em, but without seeing it I can't say much more -- except it sure looks like MS and EA are #1 and #2, and HOORAY for VG, the Clown, and Woodhead! Please give me the details AND the bigger picture! "

Fri, September 4, 2009 - 8:26am ET"Woodhead played a fantastic game...hope he is on board. Gholston is an embarassment. He couldn't go anywhere...and this was against second/third stringers. Total bust. We are going to get demolished on that side when he plays. Can see Bradey picking on him all game long. Been a fan since 1965 and never have I seen such a first round bust...oh yea..."Lam Jones" comes to mind."

Fri, September 4, 2009 - 9:17am ET"I also was stuck watching on the eagles tv coverage, as I live in philly, it was terrible. No mention of the Jets at all, wouldn't stop talking about vick, I finally put it on mute, if I had to hear coach "play to lose the game" herm say that vick hasnt played in 18 months one more time i would have lost my mind."
Jets Fan Since '64 Tom Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 10:36am ET"By the way, a puzzling irony for Jets fans: In EA's finest hour so far, two voices are silent: Southernlady, his biggest critic, and Ranger 46, his biggest (to say the least!) champion. The only thing I'm more curious about than Saturday's cuts is when one or both of these voices will be heard again! (Or has Ranger cleverly assumed other names to secretly contribute to the pro-EA groundswell?)"
Old Rogue Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 12:07pm ET"If the Jets can find some extra work for Danny Woodhead, I see no reason that they shouldn't keep him. For example, why not use him on kick returns? Or as a kind of slot-receiver/TE hybrid. The kid is too fast, and has too much heart to let him go elsewhere. And remember, putting him on the practice squad is the same as giving him away."
jak_jetfan Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 1:05pm ET"Jets Fan Since '64 i also missed the game and being in illinois its difficult to get free coverage of any teams but central nfc division...no more lions...please. so the only ainge action ive seen this year is the ravens game.[i know im repeating myself] but i think hes got the skills to blossom.im a bit biased though being a bird era celtic fan."
MikeMc Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 1:12pm ET""64 Tom, Southern Lady is a Favriac so she is probably tearing up the Viking blog. I can't believe there is so much love for a 4th string RB, nice story but c'mon guys."
MrJetGreen Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 5:20pm ET"It was a good game against the Eagles but I say that Danny Woodhead is one of the rarest of talents. Some are born with gifts of size, athleticism and maybe toughness. I think Danny Woodhead was born and bred with such a strong belief in himself that he will succeed regardless of what the pundints say. This man has my utmost respect and I hope he stays on our roster. "
Old Rogue Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 6:28pm ET"@jak_jetfan - I am in Michigan for a while, but I was able to see all but the Giants game live. The NFL Network had one, ESPN had one, another was national broadcast on NBC I think, and I caught the Giants game replay the following day on the NFL Network. And yeah, I'm suffering Lions overload myself."
Warren NJ Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 8:20pm ET"Gotta keep Woodhead...made the game last night. Remember Notre Dame's Rudy? This guy can spark the team"
36 year fan Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 9:01pm ET"I love the way Rex and Shotty just open it up for Ainge to have fun. That is football. I would have done exactly the same thing. Ainge has all the tools to lead the Jets. I know Sanchez is lookin good, But if Sanchez runs into trouble I would feel comfy to hand it over to Ainge. And if Ainge gets into trouble I would Hunt down Pizzotti and get him back on the squad. "
36 year fan Said:
Fri, September 4, 2009 - 9:13pm ET"64 Tom you're dead on. Too bad you missed the game. Vick was running backwards just as he turned to escape one LB ,another was there to smash him. It was beautiful. Another time he was hit so hard from the blind side, the ball was bouncing free all over the place. It was a nice welcome back ....Jets style. Andy Reid looked as if he was going to have a heart attack. Profuse sweating & terror."
Jets Fan Since '64 Tom Said:
Sat, September 5, 2009 - 5:40am ET"Thanks, MikeMc, I forgot about Southernlady's thing for Favre. But I think Wood has earned a spot on the team for a year, last night he did the McVea/Harper bit that I said he needed to. 36 year fan, I have the same impression of Rex and Shotty on EA, it's as if they trust him more than MS at this point to air it out. The EA we've seen this summer will push MS in a way KC never could hope to do."

Your to easy to give up on the one guy who has been supportive of this team through the good and the bad...Your not true jets fans just Sanchez Fans."
