File Under: Paul Raymond, Huey Whittaker, Chris Pizzotti, Dennis Conley
08/16 — Good Sunday morning from SUNY Cortland. And here’s a quick early blog to let you know that after the waiving of Paul Raymond and Chris Pizzotti on Saturday, the Jets are announcing this morning that wide receiver Huey Whittaker has been re-signed.
Whittaker was waived on Wednesday when the Green & White signed FA kicker Parker Douglass. And Huey has experience, with stops on the rosters of the Steelers, Buccaneers and Jaguars and in NFL Europe and the Arena league. Perhaps Huey will achieve career lift with this new lease on life as a member of the Green & White.
The Jets had already filled one of the roster spots after the waivings by signing free agent rookie guard Dennis Conley. Conley is wearing uniform No. 71 at this morning’s practice and Whittaker is back in No. 18.
We’ll have more for you, of course, after this morning’s practice. The afternoon workout at Cortland is for special teams.

"SMC, Kenwin Cummings had a nice second-half sack and tied for the Jets' tackle lead with five takedowns. We'll be talking with him after this morning's practice."

KO and punt return duties should be for leon only, leonard didnt show much there. ainge looked very good but ask yourself why schotty didnt call KC to throw a bomb on his first play ? KC is done here although i thought he played well. Ainge will take no. 2. strickland was horrible"

Sun, August 16, 2009 - 10:27am ET"Well, at 6' 5" 220, he definitely has the size. But to tell you the truth, I'm not really concerned about size. Keller is a big target, and Clowney is so fast that height really isn't that big a concern with him. JCo #1, Clowney #2, Stuckey in the slot, and we've got three quality guys that can come in and give these guys a rest. What do you guys think? If you don't agree...why not? "

V-g was the 6th pick last years draft & has had many chances notta ..Don't know where & when Cummings came in but he takes advantage of the little opportunities he has been given & has shown us he wants it .. V-G may have the talent & the Chips but Cummings has the drive & desire "

Sun, August 16, 2009 - 12:32pm ET" Shep it would be nice if Keller was 6-5 but at 6-2 he plays like it for sure hoping K - Brown will step up & play a role at TE looks big & strong enough ..Finally W- Wright Clowney & maybe Marcus -Henry will have a shot to show there wears Rex isn't afraid to let these guys play like well you all know who & where I'm going with this ..its a new era Guys & gals "

Sun, August 16, 2009 - 1:50pm ET"Hey Shep, it's early of course, but I'd certainly give the Cotchery/Clowney/Stuckey lineup a shot. And I like your willingness to do so instead of endlessly fantasizing (not you, others) about Boldin, Edwards, etc. With Sanchez getting the nod vs. BAL and folks taking another look at EA, I'm getting a good feelnig about Rex's willingness to give the guys we've got a chance. Enough with pricey FAs."

Sun, August 16, 2009 - 2:27pm ET"Last I heard, Matt Jones is still available. Sure, I know his history, but he can help, maybe not as the #2 right out of the gate, but the guy has both size and speed. Hopefully he can be signed with a back loaded contract full of incentives. Anyone agree?"
