File Under: Mike Westhoff, Jay Feely, SUNY Cortland, special teams only

08/09 — The most noteworthy thing that can be said about this afternoon’s special-teams-only practice, from my vantage point on the fifth floor of the Cortland Stadium pressbox was that the Jets got the practice in.

Storms swept across the central New York hills all afternoon, complete with thunder, lightning and heavy rain. The only stoppage was before the start of the practice. The Jets’ special teamers did about 45 minutes of work on the damp stadium turf, then went inside, and then the hail began.

As for the practice, coaches Mike Westhoff, Kevin O’Dea and Ben Kotwica conducted a mostly half-speed teaching session focusing on covering and returning Jay Feely kickoffs.

The attendances for today’s two sessions weren’t as robust as Saturday’s crowds: 822 in the morning and 441 for the rainy afternoon session.

The Jets have another double session scheduled for Monday (8:20 a.m., 3:55 p.m.), then a morning full-squad practice and another afternoon STO practice Tuesday at Cortland. Then the team travels to Long Island for its Family Night Practice at Hofstra University before Friday’s preseason opener vs. St. Louis. After a dark Saturday, they open their final week of Cortland training camp on Sunday morning.

Eric Allen and I hit the recording equipment hard today, getting interviews with WR Chansi Stuckey, defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and OLB Bryan Thomas. The Stuckey Jets Radio show is currently available on our home page and the Pettine and Thomas shows will be available in the week ahead.

"It continues to see that the jets have a lot of good depth and young talent on this roster. It will help when they go to Houston first game and it is in the 90's and they have to play without Ellis and Pace.Go Jets."

"Yeah, I thought you might not see it, as I left it in a column written by Eric. Still, not funny. The patriettes are very annoying right now, but I will always hate the stupid fish first and foremost. "
