File Under: Chansi Stuckey, Marques Tuiasosopo, Mike Nugent, Kellen Clemens
08/08 — The good news was that with the starting time for the Jets' final practice before their first preseason game moved back to 6:30 p.m. tonight, the weather wasn't too bad and got better. And that was good for the fans, more of whom showed up for this workout than made it to the morning session battling the aftereffects of the downpour.
But this was a decidedly low-key practice, much of which was spent on having the offense and defense work against the Jets' "look" teams in preparation to play the Falcons on Friday night at the Meadowlands.
There weren't a lot of crowd-pleasing plays. One early in practice was a Kellen Clemens deep ball that found Chansi Stuckey near the end zone, with the seventh-round rookie WR taking it the rest of the way for the "score."
The special teams period arrived and Nooge again came up huge. Mike Nugent hit eight straight field goal tries, all from at least 40 yards out (against a half-speed kick block team). After No. 8, holder Ben Graham stuck out his right hand, which Nugent gave an audible slap, and slapped his kicker on his helmet with his left hand, also audibly.
There was a Tuiasosopo at linebacker for a while, but it wasn't Zach, recently released by Philadelphia. It was Marques, doing double duty during offensive drills.
Tui the QB can throw a beautiful ball, and he did a few times in scout team work. On one he hit Alvin Banks downfield against Drew Coleman. But shortly after, Tuiasosopo dropped back, looked, looked, then threw a tight spiral — right to safety James Ihedigbo for the INT.
I'm going to come back tomorrow with a blog to recognize newyorkjets.com fans who have been reading the Radar for a while. Then Friday we'll set our game blog apparatus in motion.

The games haven't even started yet. Thats why its so hard to predict which teams will do well. Staying healthy is the #1 priority. Your blog has been a great read."

Wed, August 8, 2007 - 10:17pm ET"Randy, I am glad that Mangini gave the team what seems like an easy practice compared to ones they have already had. This team has worked really hard and I am sure they enjoyed not punishing their bodies as much"

Wed, August 8, 2007 - 11:16pm ET"Just finished watching the HBO Hard Knocks w/KC and Herm Edwards. WOW I am so happy that we have Eric Mangini running our team. Herm was a good guy and a good motivator cannot touch Eric on Sunday's, and Dick Curl is KC's QB coach?? This guy could not manage out game clock?? Thanks Mr.T for Mangini"

I am really pumped about this year and I will second Drew on the Herm comment better than a lot but I prefer Eric. "

Thu, August 9, 2007 - 7:08am ET"Randy, You have taken on that Mangini mentality. Good to see that you have those Jet core values too. Can't wait to see how you will use the no huddle offense in your blog. Randy, any injury reports with blogging equipment? How i forgot, you don't speak about injuries. Just kidding.Great Job !!!!!"

Thu, August 9, 2007 - 8:11am ET"Randy, The Graham story today was real good. Westhoff must have done some good work with Graham this offseason. You can tell at practice that his punts seem to have more hang time and the coverage on the ball is much better. Too many times last year they let the ball role into the endzone."

Thu, August 9, 2007 - 8:15am ET"Randy ... thanks for all the good reading material ! I like the HBO show ... it was a good look into camp. At least KCs no. 1 pick made it to camp =/."

Thu, August 9, 2007 - 10:41am ET"Interesting that the unofficial depth chart doesn't have Stuckey or Wright listed as PR's or KR's. They do however list Revis as their #1 PR. I really want to see Wright and Stuckey get their shots at returns and i think they will. That why its called unofficial. BTW Kendall is listed as the #1 LG."
Drew Said:
Thu, August 9, 2007 - 11:09am ET"It will be hard to find an orginaztion that has better special teams than us. Westhoff has done such a great job since he has been here. I thought we are going to lose him when we changed over last year. Even with Nugent's short kicks we covered really well...Imagine Westoff with Revis on punt return"
Rick, KP Said:
Thu, August 9, 2007 - 11:39am ET"Wheres Revis?, this is not working out the way we all hoped....is Kendal the starting LG?.... Who are the return men with Miller hurt?... back-up CB?, he may not be here yet....which TE, has the inside on the #2 spot?..."

Thu, August 9, 2007 - 2:11pm ET"you know youve been missing football when you can't wait for a preseason game. i'm stoked about the nooge's progression and the opportunities he will present in special teams. also, ira, i don't think that revis is first PR- i think its leon."
Ira Said:
Thu, August 9, 2007 - 7:08pm ET"Moto, I agree with you. If the season started today it would be Leon. That was just an unofficial depth chart."

Fri, August 10, 2007 - 1:10pm ET"Not to be micro-critical this early in the campaign, tonight we look for details: consistency, discipline. How the players get on and off the field, substitutions, false starts, truly knowing assignments. Not so much concerned with the starters, it’s second units’ performance that can be a key. A half ton and goin’ strong! It’s hard to believe a one-thousand Radar comment is so quickly at hand. Although, it figures, especially when you’re having fun. Our genuine thanks to RL and the knowledgeable contributors in delivering an informative and enjoyable ongoing historical journal. "

Wed, August 8, 2007 - 9:39pm ET"Randy, Can't wait to see what Clemens can do vs the Falcons. Good to read about Stuckey again. Banks could be that FA that makes it. Most important is to see how he pass blocks and doesn't fumble. Nugent is having a great camp. Randy, what type of game plan to you have for your game blog ?"
