File Under: Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens, Eric Smith, Wallace Wright

08/08 — Heavy humidity left over from the early morning deluge, heated by the morning sun, turned Wednesday's morning practice into an uncomfortable sauna. Chad Pennington celebrated at one point by taking an intentional slide in the mud of the Hofstra soccer stadium grass field, and at another point by letting out a whoop.

The offense continued to hit its share of scoring passes over the defense in passing drills. Wallace Wright, the second-year man from North Carolina, was the receiver on a couple of strikes. Early on against the sub defense, he gathered in a Pennington spiral over Hank Poteat. Then in the two-minute drills to wind up the session, he made a sprawling TD grab in the back of the end zone from Kellen Clemens.

Clemens also floated a ball toward the pylon that Stacy Tutt juggled but pulled in for a pretty score. But on the play S Eric Smith, who had the coverage, was shaken up.

Clemens also hit Frisman Jackson over Rayshaun Kizer for a touchdown and Chansi Stuckey for a score to end practice.

The defense rose up several times. Andre Dyson batted away a Pennington pass for Jerricho Cotchery in the end zone. And Drew Coleman did the same on a Pennington spin-and-jump heave for Laveranues Coles.

OL coach Tony Wise is still coaching his unit hard. He sent recent signees Marko Cavka and Nick Smith on simultaneous laps after false starts. Later, the entire second offense took a tour of the grass field.

Tonight's final practice before Friday's preseason opener vs. Atlanta is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday the Jets will have a walkthrough period that is closed to fans and reporters.

"Ira is right!!! The secondary looks to be in trouble, injuries , lack of depth at cb as well has experience at cb,he's right ,Brady and the pats will pick us apart if we dont produce a pass rush.Only problem is NE protects brady better than any other O line in the league by far.lets hope dbs get goin"

"Kellen Clemens continues to impress me. We've got a real good situation here with an experienced (and still-improving) starter in Pennington, and a star-in-the-making with Clemens."
