File Under: Jerricho Cotchery, Ben Graham, Drew Coleman, Brett Ratliff, Vernon Gholston, Tony Richardson, Dustin Keller, Marcus Henry

Today's late practice was a mix of offense vs. defense and then special teams. And it brought us some of the first matchups between the Jets' two first-round rookies.

It was a split decision in the 1-on-1 drills. Dustin Keller beat Vernon Gholston on a reception over the middle. But the former Ohio State linebacker came back and beat the ex-Purdue tight end for a "sack."

Coach Not Happy with Morning's Results

File Under: Eric Mangini, Kellen Clemens, Vernon Gholston, Steve Serby

Don't confuse effort with results. That was head coach Eric Mangini's message to his players after this morning's 10th practice of Capital One Bank Jets Training Camp. And he repeated the message to reporters at his daily midday news conference.

"There was effort this morning. There weren't any results," Mangini said. "It's practicing with a purpose."

There’s so much to watch at this training camp that I think most people tend to forget Eric Smith. The 6’1”, 209-pound safety, who started four games in his first two seasons, has seen the overwhelming majority of first-team reps for the right to play alongside Kerry Rhodes.

“The first group, we put a lot of practices together where we’ve been good,” Smith said of the DBs after today's sing… More

A Hartford Cookout in Honor of Mangini's Dad

File Under: Eric Mangini, Leon Washington, Rudy Burgess, St. Elizabeth House, Carmine Hartford

Eric Mangini had several housekeeping items at the top of his daily news conference today as usual, but one of those notes was a very important and heartfelt one for the Jets head coach and his family.

Tonight in Hartford, Conn., Mangini's hometown, his family is hosting the Carmine Mangini Memorial Picnic at St. Elizabeth House. That's the transitional housing facility that Eric's late father di… More
